A year...

It was about this time last year that i experienced the worst of events in my short life (so far). I remember when i was 16, having to break up with my then 'boyfriend' because my mum wasn't pleased...feeling the world come down on me and my mum told me, "Don't worry, over time, you will forget." :-D We hear that all the time. But do we really forget? We just remember it less often, but it comes back to us some day sooner or later.

In the Khmer language, there are 2 words for the word 'forget', one intended when you really forget (plaicht), and another for when you make an effort to forget (bomplaicht). English should have that too. What i went through is nothing if compared to the difficulties that many others, even among those i know, have gone through. But compared to the sheltered life that i have had, it was 'my hell'. I disappointed everyone who mattered to me and i disappointed myself. It's no point saying, 'I wish things were different' because it probably may not have changed the course of events. It was my lesson to learn.

And to those i gave a difficult time during that ordeal, i'm sorry. I know your advice had been given out of love. And i appreciate that you stood by my side during that time. Thank you. To those who are still disappointed in me, i'm sorry. Nobody is perfect and we are all learning in this life...I'm not an angel, i'm just a person ;-)

My list of 'Not and Angel' is much longer. Anyways, humans are vunerable beings and to be honest about our failings makes us more so. It takes courage.
